From a Bed-Stuy bandstand to Columbus Circle
A short week, but a deep one. Big Lazy brings its surf noir to Bed-Stuy, a Springsteen sideman marks a debut album at Dizzy's, and a tap dancer stages a multidisciplinary set at the Jazz Gallery. Three very different rooms, all worth the trip.

For two decades Big Lazy has been a fixture of downtown New York's instrumental scene, trading in what they call surf noir — cinematic, guitar-forward, a little menacing. Stephen Ulrich's trio is joined tonight by guest guitarist Gitkin at Bed-Stuy's Bar Lunàtico. Two sets, a full dinner and cocktail menu, and ten dollars at the door.

Fresh off the road with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Anthony Almonte celebrates his debut album, Conversando Con La Luna, at Dizzy's. The record is rooted in salsa with touches of pop and rock, warm and rhythmic, and he brings it to the bandstand with a full band perched above Columbus Circle. Release nights tend to carry a particular charge.

Tap dancer and percussionist Melissa Almaguer presents ¡alebrijes!, a set that threads live music through original artwork and animation. The band runs deep — David Virelles on piano, DoYeon Kim on gayageum, Samantha Kochis on flute, Henry Fraser on bass — at the Jazz Gallery in Flatiron. Two sets, and it's free with a SummerPass.
